I have been practicing Pediatric Emergency Medicine since 1985, having trained at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. I moved to Vancouver in 1991 and have worked in Emergency at BC Children’s Hospital since 1992.

I have been collaborating and communicating with the Adult Emergency community since soon after my arrival: teaching VGH FRCP residents, designing our BCCH Pediatric Practice plan based on those of the St Paul’s, Royal Columbian and VGH groups, participating in BCMA Section of Emergency meetings since 2001, and representing your interests to UBC Medical School on the board of the University Clinical Faculty Association (2002-2006).

I have been a participant in the Academic Working Group’s formation of the Department of Emergency Medicine (UBC). I am (exceedingly happily) married to Lyne Filiatrault, attending physician in the Emergency Department of VGH.

Adam grew up in Vancouver, attending UBC for undergrad and medical school. For a change, he went to the University of Alberta to complete his specialty training in Emergency Medicine. As a glutton for punishment, he then finished a Master of Distance Education degree from Athabasca University.

Academic interests include education, e-learning, mass gatherings, disaster medicine and prehospital care, pediatric Emergency Medicine, trauma and forensics. 

He is grateful for the past work of the Section of Emergency Medicine, and hopes to contribute in a positive way to the growth of EM in BC through participation in the executive.
